Editorial Reviews: The simply designed Casio G-Shock Classic digital watch for men offers shock resistance that's great for your most vigorous sporting activities. The durable rectangular black watch case measures 45mm wide (1.77 inches), and it's matched to a comfortable black resin sports strap. The face has two windows that show time (bottom) and date (top) as well as a circular display for the stopwatch function, which can measure events down to 1/100 of a second for the first 60 minutes (and down to 1 second from 60 minutes to 24 hours). It also offers elapsed and split time modes, and 1st-2nd place times, and it includes a countdown timer with a 24-hour range. Other timekeeping features include a multi-function alarm, hourly time signal (which can be turned off), and 12/24-hour formats. This timepiece also features an Auto Calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2039), ±15-second accuracy per month, Afterglow backlighting, and water resistance to 200 meters (660 feet)--which will stand up to the rigors of recreational scuba diving.

    Summary: G-Shockingly Disappointed
Comment: Another victim of the Sudden G-Shock Death Syndrome described in other reviews here. This one just went dead after less than 6 months of normal use -- no water immersion, no banging or shocks, no falls from high buildings. I sent it to an authorized repair center, got it back seemingly repaired, but then 2 months later it was dead again. My once high confidence in Casio is shot. For everyday use I've replaced it with a $14 Timex 1440 which is nowhere near as cool-looking, but has functioned reliably for over a year. I've also owned incredibly cheap no-name digital watches for use at the gym that were more durable and lasted for years. I bought this watch based on the 4 stars average review and ignored the people reporting bad experiences -- but now realize that the 8 one-star reviews vs. 25 five-star reviews found on Amazon today really point to higher chances of dissatisfaction than a "4 out of 5 stars" would seem to indicate.

Summary: Really liked my old G-Shock
Comment: I bought this item to replace my old G-Shock, a DW9050. I've had the old one for 5+ years, and have not even replaced the battery. It has been diving to 90 ft, rafting, kayaking, been worn swimming innumerable times, and generally been on my wrist 99% of the time. I replaced it because it was getting rather beat up (except the part we used to call the crystal, which is quite unscratched) and the little boot on one of the buttons had come off and gotten lost. I really liked this old watch.

Well, the replacement, the real subject of this review, died after 3 weeks. All but a few random bits of the numbers disappeared, and it "locked up." I felt as though if I could have "rebooted" it, it might have been OK again (for how long though?) but I didn't want to remove the battery cover. I rather liked it while it lived, though the features differed some from my old one.

Amazon, much to its credit, replaced the dead watch (overnight shipping) and prepaid for the return of the old one, even though I had discarded the plastic box. So I'm rating it a tentative 4 stars.

We'll see how long the replacement lives. If it too has a short life I'll update this review.

    Summary: Great watch, great price...
Comment: I think this is a great watch. I wear it to work, and it takes a beating constantly. It feels light on your wrist, so you can wear it all day and not even know it's there. But for being so light, it'll actually take a pretty good shot or two and still be fine. I've had other duty watches that held up to constant abuse, but none are as light or as operator friendly as this one. I wish I would've just bought this watch originally. Definitely recommended, but especially at this price.

    Summary: BE CAREFUL WITH CASIO
Comment: I have had a Casio watch for about a year and now the watchband needs replaced. I was informed by Walmart that they cannot replace a Casio watchband. I called Casio and they told me that as far as they know NO CASIO WATCHBAND CAN BE REPLACED BY A NORMAL WATCHBAND! I had to order a watchband from Casio and they had to know which model it was before I ordered it. Total price: $12.00 shipping, handling and sales tax included. I then asked the representative if instructions would be included because it was a different type of setup instead of pins. HE SAID THAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO RECOMMEND TAKING THE BAND TO A JEWELER TO HAVE IT PUT ON!! PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS AS BANDS DO NOT LAST FOREVER!!

    Summary: G-Shock Best Work Watch
Comment: The watch takes more abuse than any other I know but I have only worn Casio G-Shock for the past 15 years or so and am a little biased. Only problem is the wrist band doesn't hold up as well as the time piece and the replacement wrist bands are also not up to snuff. Still.....wouldn't wear anything else.
