It grabs the hairs and rips them out!! However it works miracles on my three shorthair dogs and two short hair cats. So it was worth buying. However people need to realize that it will not work on all coats. The waterless shampoo was impressive as well. Except the pump clogged after only one use. That, and my dogs are afraid of it. My pugs, lab and cat all enjoy it and it does not hurt them at all. it shoul dbe used about once a week or so for full effect. the spray smells great and has natural ingredients but I still give them a bath.
