Editorial Reviews:
Brome 1024 Squirrel Buster Plus Wild Bird Feeder with Cardinal Perch Ring. This posigrip ring system has been specifically designed to attract cardinals. These perennial favorites have two very distinct features: small necks and big feet. They prefer gripping a thicktextured perch and facing their food source directly. Cardinals dislike turning their heads to feed. The Squirrel Buster Plus Cardinal Ring perch system allows them to eat facing the seed while providing a secure and comfortable perch. These cardinalfriendly feeding features combined with a bush level location make Squirrel Buster Plus very inviting to cardinals. The seed ports close automatically when a squirrel climbs onto the feeder. Birdwatch America's Best New Product Award. Seed capacity: 3 quarts.

Customer Rating: Summary: Amazingly rodent-proof!Comment: We purchased this feeder about a year ago in a last-ditch effort at backyard birding. Squirrels, rats & racoons had raided and/or destroyed every single feeder we had purchased over the years. When the feeder arrived, we simply filled it and put it out, but the internal spring mechanism still allowed rodents & large birds access the food. I followed the instructions to adjust the mechanism to its most sensitive setting, and voila: not one animal or large bird has been able to get to the food since. They also haven't chewed or destroyed any of the feeder parts, which are thick, tough plastic and metal. The birds are ecstatic, and so am I. This is one of those rare products that is worth every penny.Customer Rating: Summary: Great feederComment: Have had many bird feeders but this one is by far the best yet. It holds a lot more bird food than any other one I've had & so far the squirrels have not gotten to it. The way it is made, I really can't imagine how they would be able to because of the way the port holes close. I would definitely say get this feeder.Customer Rating: Summary: Shipped in bad conditionComment: This is my first bad experience with Amazon. I ordered this for a Christmas gift. It came shipped in original box and was beat up badly in transit. No time to return before Christmas and now I must give a gift that looks like I bought it at a rummage sale. VERY DISAPPOINTING.Customer Rating: Summary: Birds love it, squirrels don'tComment: This is a big feeder so refilling is minimized. While little birds can enjoy several models, medium sized birds need the extra perch space this feeder provides. For whatever reasons, the Indigo Buntings prefer this feeder even though they're small and the Red-Breasted Grosbeaks don't fit on the small perches of my other feeders so this is the only one they come to. The little birds use it as well as the others.
Squirrels, of course, can't get any food from it, although they can get the ring off sometimes. There's nothing else for them to get a grip on although they have tried, but apparently the word went out, because they don't come around anymore. I've got the ring on there pretty tight at this point. There are easy directions if you have to replace it or tighten it.
The feeder is also guaranteed forever so if the ring gets lost for any reason, it will be replaced free. You don't actually need the ring, as there are perches around the bottom with access to the seed openings and not using it even further deters squirrels, but my birds seem to like it. Even though the Grosbeaks are only in my area for a short time, they are so pretty, I'm eager to provide an environment that attracts them.
The large tube of this feeder makes it easier to fill than other tube feeders and it's easy to hang high as it has a rigid hanger that allows you to hold it over your head to reattach on a tall pole. It is a durable feeder and popular with the birds because they can still feed in large numbers even when the feeder is almost empty since all the feedholes are around the bottom. A great squirrel proof feeder. Highly recommended.
Customer Rating: Summary: Blue Jays too smart for this dumb feederComment: This feeder worked fine for about two weeks, until the blue jays realized that they could perch IN THE FOOD HOLES and eat out of adjacent holes, thereby foiling the perch weighting mechanism.
Brome had better go back to the drawing board; this feeder just is not clever enough for certain species.
