Editorial Reviews: Is there anything that simply screams the 1970s' most indelible pop cultural clichés--the sunny romanticism, perfect vocal hooks, feathered hair, stacked heels, and flared sateen britches--more than the Swedish pop phenomenon Abba? And while many a pundit snootily dismissed them during their prime as some sort of prefabricated aberration, their worldwide popularity peaked somewhere just south of Beatlesmania. Indeed, Abba's music was as finely tooled and crafted as anything to come from a Volvo or IKEA factory--if occasionally more economically potent. This double-disc, 37-track anthology comes neatly on the heels of Mama Mia!, the smash, if unlikely, Broadway show based on the band's hits, and documents every single released by the band's Polar label in their home country as well as key tracks released internationally. This is the canon from whence the term "Europop" sprang. Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Great album Comment: Though they became the butt of many jokes, Abba really produced some good, cheery songs, well worth your attention. I discovered them somewhat by accident all these years later, hearing a couple of their tunes on satellite radio, and decided to splurge a bit on the CD. Well worth it. Customer Rating: Summary: I'm impressed with this music Comment: When I first bought this CD I knew that I would be pleased, in which I was. Come to think of it, there were quite a few songs that became newly favorites of mine, such as "Honey, Honey", "Angel eyes", "Under Attack", and "Thank you for the music" are very good. I thought ABBA Gold was inspirational, but this CD is impressive. From what I've learned the name of ABBA actually comes from the singers first initials themselves. I know that after releasing Mamma Mia some other collections are selling, but this one contains more than 30 songs, and it's great.
